Chemical Engineering at Penn State has a long and proud tradition in chemical education. As one of the largest programs in the country, it is known for the quality of its graduates and the high reputation it enjoys among the chemical engineering industry. Over the past decade, the program has produced an average 120 graduates per year who have taken positions in the chemical and biochemical industries, government agencies, and consulting firms, while others have continued their education by pursuing graduate degrees in engineering, law, and medicine.

The curriculum emphasizes fundamentals while allowing students to pursue specialized topics in bioprocess engineering, materials science, and energy & fuels engineering. The rigorous and competitive academics attract some of the best students around. Approximately 10% of the class graduates with honors whereas the average for the University is 2%. Co-op, internships, and numerous opportunities to become involved in cutting-edge research in Biomolecular, Computation & Analysis, and Nanoscale, offer the practical knowledge and skills that our graduates need to succeed in a world that is rapidly changing.
