Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to select an Option?

Yes. If you do not explicitly request an Option, you are automatically considered to be in the General Option.

When should I declare my Option?

The Options begin to separate in the 5th semester. Therefore, you should make your decision before you start the 5th semester.

Can I choose my Option after the 5th semester?

Yes. However, you must satisfy all the requirements of the Option that you choose. Depending how far advanced you are when you make this choice, you may have to take several additional credits and you may not be able to finish in four years.

Can I choose courses from other Options?

You cannot use courses from other Options as substitutes for courses in your own Option. Once you have chosen an Option, you must satisfy all of the requirements for that Option, as described in this book. You are free, of course, to take any courses you wish as additional credit. Such credits will not be counted towards the requirements of your degree.

Can I change my mind once I have selected an Option?

Yes. However, you must satisfy all the requirements of the new Option that you select. Depending how far advanced you are when you change your Option, you may have to take several additional credits and you may not be able to graduate in four years.

Which option should I choose?

The choice is yours and should be guided by your own interests and personal preferences. Talk to your advisor to explore possibilities. The General Option, through the various electives, is a good choice for those who do not have strong special interest in the areas covered in the specialized Options.

Additional Information
