Ph.D. Candidacy Examination
Candidacy Exam Committee:
The Candidacy Exam committee will consist of four members. Three of them are selected by the student in consultation with his/her thesis advisor.
- One of the selected members must be from a department other than Chemical Engineering.
- The other two selected members should be faculty members in the Department of Chemical Engineering who intend to serve on the permanent doctoral committee of the student.

The fourth member will be the Ch E faculty
member selected by the department (by rotation each semester) to serve as
the Chair on all candidacy exams for a given semester.
This Chairperson is responsible for quality monitoring and for properly conducting the exam.
The student's advisor must attend the exam but is not a member of the exam committee and must not participate in the discussions and deliberations involving the student except to provide specific information regarding research performance. When the current candidacy exam Chair is also the student's advisor, a new Chair for the exam committee will be appointed.
