Ch E 528, Colloidal Forces and Thermodynamics (3)
Unified treatment of formation, growth and stability of colloids based on principles of intermolecular and colloidal forces and thermodynamics. Prerequisite: CHEM 45 1,Ch E 304 or an equivalent background in chemical thermodynamics.
This course covers roughly 25 classic problems in particle stability, forces,
and rheology. Techniques of synthesis are discussed, as are methods for examining
the flow of colloidal particles in a suspending liquid. The course draws on
classical problems in the field, but addresses the latest technology, including photonic crystals and quantum dots.
