Lee Gaumer is a chemical engineer who has contributed creatively to the field of cryogenics for over thirty-seven years. His research is concerned with many low-temperature processes such as cryogenic air separation, hydrogen and helium extraction and purification, and natural gas liquefaction. The pioneering nature of his research career is evidenced by the sixteen patents he holds.

In recognition of his work, Mr. Gaumer received the Chaiman's Award for Excellence, the highest honor bestowed on an individual by his company, and is the recipient of the 1990 Coors American Ingenuity Award honoring great American Inventors. Mr. Gaumer was presented the award for his contribution to the U.S. space progam - creating technology for the high-volume production of liquid hydrogen rocket propellant. In his current position, Mr. Gaumer provides technical assistance to approximately 600 individuals across a broad range of engineering departments.

His involvement in the Department of Chemical Engineering is intense and productive. Mr. Gaumer guest lectures, provides resource materials, and has continued and interest in the cryogenic engineering course. He also serves on the Chemical Engineering Industrial and Professional Advisory Council.
