Walter Supina began his career in chromatography in 1959 when he joined Applied Science, a pioneer firm in the field of colleague founded Supelco in a leaky garage in Bellefonte, PA. From these humble beginnings, the corporation has become one of the dominant forces in gas chromatography.

Chromatography, an analyticcal tool by which very small sample of complex mixtures of chemicals can be separated into their individual components and subsequently detected and measured, has extensive use in monitoring water and air conditions, narcotics and other drugs in patients or suspected abusers.

Dr. Supina has played a significant role in leading Supelco to a place of prominence in this field. He holds three patents and has published over twenty articles. He is a member of the Chromatography Society (Great Britain), is a past president of the Chromatography Forum of Delarware Valley, and was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce to the District Export Council.

Among his many contributions to the College of Engineering are his service as President of the Penn State Engineering Society and membership on the Industrial and Professional Advisory Council.
