George Keller joined the Research and Development Department of Union Carbide in 1961. During his career there, he has established himself as one to their most knowledgeable and productive scientists. He has led research programs which have resulted in numerous new separation systems and reaction technologies. He was the first elected chairman of the Corporate Fellows Organization, the highest scientific body of the corporation.

Dr. Keller is a member of the National Research Council. He has lectured at fourteen universities, is the author of over a dozen publications, and is the co-holder of seven patents. He has served as a program consultant to the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy's Division of Industrial Programs and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Division of Basic Energy Sciences. He is a member of the National Research Council's Committtee on Separation Science and Technology, and of the Editorial Board of Separation Science and Technology.

In 1985, he was the chairman of the Gordon Conference on Separation and Purification and the recipient of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' Institute Lecture Award. In 1988, he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
