Mr. Beck has a long history of service to and involvement in the Department of Chemical Engineering and the University. He is a major supporter of the Fenske Fellowship and has been instrumental in securing vital funding from Pennzoil, where he was a division president until his retirement.

Prior to Mr. Beck's nine-year tenure as president of the Penreco Division of Pennzoil in Bulter, Pennsylvania, he spent thirty-five years with the Pennsylvania Refining Company. Mr. Beck joined Pennslyvania Refining in 1938 as technical director. He was vice president for refining from 1951-62 and was named president in 1962.

Mr. Beck's dedication extends beyond his vocation as chemical engineer into a variety of civic enterprises. He has been member of the Board of Directors for Butler County Community College since 1965, and has served as president, trustee, and director. He also is a member of the Slippery Rock University Board of Trustees and a former member of the Butler County Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Mr. Beck served for thirty years on the Karns City Area School Board. He is a member of Phi Kappa Sigma.
